TEHRAN – German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier on Sunday criticized the U.S. sanctions against Iran, the first set of which came into force last Monday.

“We do not let Washington dictate trade relations with other countries and therefore stand by the Vienna nuclear agreement,” Altmaier said, Politico reported.

In a joint statement last week, the European guarantors of the nuclear deal said they were actively working to thwart the U.S. sanctions.

“Preserving the nuclear deal with Iran is a matter of respecting international agreements and a matter of international security,” the statement read.
