TEHRAN – President Raúl Castro of Cuba sent a message of condolences to Iranian President Rouhani, expressing sympathies over the deadly earthquake of last Sunday in western Iran.

Sending a message of condolences to his Iranian counterpart President Hassan Rouhani, President Raúl Castro of Cuba extended sympathies to Iranians affected by the recent earthquake of last Sunday.

He issued his letter on Saturday, extending sympathies on behalf of Cuban government and people with Iranian government, nation, victims’ families, and the injured.

“I was distressed to learn of the violent earthquake which struck Kermanshah Province of Iran and claimed the lives of hundreds, wounded thousands, and inflicted heavy material damage,”  reads the letter signed by Cuban president addressing President Rouhani.

“The deepest sympathy and condolences of Cuban nation and government are with you and the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” states the Cuban president in his message.

Almost 500 people were killed and thousands left homeless by a powerful tremor that hit western Iran on November 12, prompting an international wave of solidarity.
