Iran and China have reached initial agreement for dispatch of six freight trains linking Yinchuan, capital of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Iran’s capital Tehran, by end of 2017.

Director of Transportation Department at the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Ebrahim Mohammadi made the announcement on Thu. in a ceremony marking the arrival of an international freight train from China to Iran through the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan route.

“In a meeting with Liang Hua, the CEO in charge of the Yinchuan-Tehran freight train project, it was decided that China send two trains per month by the end of 2017,” Mohammadi said.

According to him, the trains will begin their trips from Yinchuan and travel through the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan route to arrive in Tehran after 14 days.

Also at the meeting, the Chinese delegation welcomed the proposal for establishing a container terminal near Tehran train station. The Chinese side also promised that its government would exempt businesses from paying rail transport costs up to the Chinese borders as an incentive.

Calling for cooperation by the Iranian side for providing conditions for launching trips of the Chinese train from Iran to Europe was another topic of discussion in the meeting.
