Berlin seeks saving the nuclear deal and will support Iran in face of US sanctions, German Ambassador to Tehran said on Monday.’Germany attaches much importance to relations with Iran in every spheres,’ Michael Klor-Berchtold said in a meeting with Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, head of National Security and Foreign Policy at Iran’s Parliament.

Criticizing the US President Donald Trump for unilaterally withdrawing from international deals, including JCPOA, the German diplomat said his country along with many other European countries are against Washington’s measures.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the US, France, Britain, China, and Russia) plus Germany signed the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in 2015. Iran accepted to curb its nuclear program in exchange for some economic sanctions relief.

In addition to pulling out from the deal, US has re-imposed sanctions on Tehran, and has urged its allies to halt their oil imports from Iran by November.

‘Germany and European Union regard the US sanctions on third parties as contradictory to international laws,’ he said.

The diplomat expressed hope that with EU measures Iran will be able to benefit from all its rights under the nuclear deal.

The Iranian lawmaker, for his part, said the two countries can boost their relations in various fields using their capacities.

Falahatpisheh also described President Trump’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal as another attempt to destabilize the region and world.
